Topic: Social Determinants of Health and Health Outcomes

Introduction

Social determinants of health are fundamental to understanding inequalities in health outcomes as well as devising policies and programs to tackle them.  Drawing insights from research and experiences in population level strategies and community level programs in Scotland, Australia and Hong Kong, Prof. Jean Woo and Dr. Mark Robinson will examine the drivers of inequalities of health and what can be done to improve the situation.  The lessons learnt from contrasting societal contexts and life expectancies will have practical relevance to other countries and people from Government, social and medical sectors, academia and charities who want to devise effective solutions to reduce unfair and avoidable inequalities in health.

Topic: The tale of two populations: ageing with HIV in Hong Kong and Australia

Introduction

The University of Queensland (UQ) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) share a strong track record and vision for research and social impact in addressing society’s key challenges.

Across Australia and Hong Kong there are many similarities in the population of people living and ageing with HIV. This webinar will share UQ’s and CUHK’s understandings of the experiences of people living and ageing with HIV using both clinical and social science lens, with deeper consideration of both management and monitoring and the social determinants of health.

Healthy ageing is a goal for all ageing societies, yet there are inequalities in healthy ageing. How should we measure this as an outcome? Both personal and environmental factors contribute to healthy ageing.
